Atlet tunggal putra Indonesia Jonatan Christie melangkah ke babak 16 besar Denmark Open 2024 setelah revans atas Leong Jun Hao dari Malaysia pada Rabu, 16 Oktober 2024. “Puji Tuhan, bersyukur bisa meraih kemenangan dan berhasil revans atas Leong Jun Hao, karena di pertemuan terakhir kami di Indonesia Open 2024 kemarin, saya harus alami kekalahan,” kata dia dikutip dari keterangan tertulis PP PBSI.
Jonatan, yang turun sebagai unggulan keempat dalam turnamen Super 750, menang atas Leong melalui straight game 21-16, 21-14 pada partai 32 besar yang digelar di Odense tersebut. Pada pertandingan tersebut, runner up Arctic Open 2024 itu mengatakan melakukan pendekatan yang lebih sabar dan cermat dalam melancarkan serangan atau strategi di lapangan.
Tadi saya bermain lebih sabar dan lebih menggunakan taktik dalam setiap poin, dan lawan juga terlihat di pertandingan hari ini lebih tertekan, dan ini menjadi suatu keuntungan bagi saya,” ujar Jonatan.
Dengan kemenangan ini, Jonatan akan berjumpa wakil China Lu Guang Zu pada babak kedua turnamen BWF Super 750 tersebut yang digelar Kamis, 17 Oktober 2024. “Besok saya akan menghadapi Lu Guang Zu, dia pemain yang cukup bagus, cukup ulet dalam mengambil bola, tidak mudah menghadapi dia,” kata dia. “Jadi saya harus bermain lebih sabar, lebih tenang dan harus berusaha mengurangi kesalahan sendiri.”
